Class Schedules / Locations

Currently, training is available in the north Phoenix community of Anthem and the mountain community of Flagstaff.

In Anthem:

The Garage of Pain: call for scheduling sessions for individual or small group training.

The Garage of Pain (GOP) is located in Anthem at 4307 West LaPenna, in the development on the West side of the I-17 freeway, close to the factory outlet stores. Take the Anthem Way exit off I-17 and drive West on Anthem Way to 43rd Ave (WalMart is on the Southwest corner of this intersection). Drive north on 43rd Ave to Silva, where you can only turn West (left). Silva will end in about a 100 feet, turn right and then left: 4307 West LaPenna is on the corner. Welcome to the GOP.

Also in Flagstaff at Summit Health and Fitness:

Express Boot Camp serves up heaping helpings of productive suffering in the group exercise classroom - not full strength CrossFit training, but a suitable introduction to intensity and enhanced work capacity. Currently limited to Thursday evenings at 6:15pm.

Small Group and Individual Training :

There is clear benefit to individual or couples training, either at one of the locations above, or in your home. In the early stages of introduction to CrossFit training, this is beneficial: it allows focused training on your form and training goals.

In addition, much of physical therapy services take the form of individual strength training, or therapeutic exercise. Specific conditions require case by case analysis of the situation to determine whether physical therapy benefits cover therapeutic exercise for rehabilitation services.

Individual training and physical therapy treatment are available by appointment at Summit Health and Fitness, 1301 West University in Flagstaff.

Please contact me and we can discuss time, objectives, location and price for sessions outside of existing groups. Please keep in mind, however, that training in small groups fuels a big part of the CrossFit’s effectiveness. Individual training is typically viewed as a short term investment in specific goals, or as reasonable and necessary physical therapy services, with the goals of material improvement in a reasonable time frame.

A word about your first session: Please arrive for the first session 15 minutes early, dressed in loose fitting and modest exercise attire and supportive, well designed athletic shoes. Tight, restrictive clothing is not recommended for these workouts – you will want both plenty of freedom of movement and margin for your body to disperse sweat. Typically, clothing made of cotton fabric works well unless you have special exercise clothing designed to disperse perspiration. You will also want to bring a bottle of water or sports energy drink.

Before you start, I will ask you to fill out a brief medical history and personal information form, and sign waivers that acknowledge risk of engaging in CrossFit programs. Physical therapy patients will be asked to fill out other forms as well. I may ask you to obtain clearance from your physician before participating. If you are over 40, have a history of cardiopulmonary disease, or have never exercised vigorously, a checkup with your physician prior to engaging in exercise training is wise.
